Tarana is in a secluded and pretty valley halfway between Bathurst and Lithgow. Access is via Brewongle or from the Great Western Highway at Kirkconnell. Near Tarana is the Evans Crown Nature Reserve and it was from the top of this craggy granite outcrop that Surveyor Evans first saw the Bathurst plains. Facilities include a general store and hotel.
