carillonThe Bathurst War Memorial Carillon was built by the citizens of Bathurst to commemorate the lives of those who paid the supreme sacrifice for their country.

Their memory lives on in the light of the Eternal Flame and the ringing of the bells from within the Memorial. The Memorial was opened on 11 November, Armistice Day, 1933, before an estimated crowd of 15,000.  It was dedicated to the fallen on 12 November, 1933.

Originally built to commemorate those who gave their lives in World War I, it has become a living memorial paying tribute to all Australians who have fallen in all wars and conflicts so that we may live in peace and enjoy the freedom we have today.

Bathurst War Memorial Carillon celebrated its 75th anniversary on Sunday, 9 November 2008 with a party in Kings Parade.  The community enjoyed performances by local bands and singers, viewed vintage and historic car displays and were even able to take short tours of the Eternal Flame level.  A highlight of the official ceremony was the cutting of the anniversary cake.
